GeoAPI and NetCDF

i am studying GeoAPI. I want to access the format NetCDF by this API. <br>
but i don't understand the difference between dimension and simple dimension(band), <br>
how i presente the dimension of NetCDF, by axis of coordinate systeme, by dimension or by the simple dimension?<br>
